Basilica of St Andrew High School Confirmation Program 2025-2026

Our program is for all Catholic youth who have received Baptism and the Eucharist. They must be at least in 10^th Grade and at least 15 years of age.

~ The Orientation Meeting for all Parents & Candidates will be on Sunday, September 14th, at 1pm in the Social Hall!

~ Parents must register their children in the parish’s Religious Education Program to be

eligible for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Diocese of Richmond requires ALL

Candidates to participate in both their parish’s Religious Education program/classes and

Confirmation program/sessions. If this is not possible, contact Paul Flagg and we will accommodate to the best of our abilities!

~ All Candidates must have a current Baptismal Certificate with 1st Communion in its

Notations by January 8th, 2026. If your child was Baptized at a different parish, please

provide an updated Baptismal Certificate (with 1st Communion notations on it) to us by Jan. 8th. NOTE: If your child was Baptized and received the 1st Communion here at St Andrew, we should have it on record.

~ Each Candidate will be required to have an interview with the Youth Coordinator. This interview can be scheduled with Paul Flagg for any day between September 14^th-25^th.

~ Candidates may choose a Saint’s Name when being Confirmed. It is not required to pick a Saint’s name. You may use your Baptismal name. All Candidates are asked to inform your Confirmation Coordinator of your Confirmation/Saint name by Thurs., January 8th, 2026.

~ All Candidates are required to have a Sponsor. Please review and choose a Sponsor who

would best fulfill this important role. Each Sponsor will need to fill out a Confirmation

SPONSOR ATTESTATION FORM to be signed by their pastor, stating that they are an

active, Confirmed Catholic in good standing with the Church. Please have the completed

Sponsor Attestation Form returned to your parish by Thurs., January 8th.

~ Each Candidate is required to participate in a Confirmation Retreat.

~ The Candidates’ Sessions will be held on Thursday evenings (see schedule below for dates, times, and locations). All Candidates are required to attend these sessions. Parents, please inform your Confirmation Coordinator if your child cannot attend a session. The Sessions will be taught from the Diocesan Confirmation Core Curriculum Lesson Plans and Ascension’s Chosen program and will be led by the Confirmation team members on assigned Thursdays from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

Dec. 4 – Session 7 (Youth Room) (snow make-up day will be Dec. 11 if needed)

Jan. 8 – Session 8 (Youth Room)(snow make-up day will be Jan. 15 if needed)

Feb. 5 - Parent Meeting with Candidates

** Rehearsal TBA & Confirmation Ceremony TBA

~ The Sacrament of Confirmation Ceremony/Mass is TBA by the Diocese in January 2026.

Typically, Confirmation is scheduled in March or April at St. Mary’s in Blacksburg or St. Andrew’s in Roanoke, VA, on a weekday evening. Note: Rehearsal will be scheduled once Confirmation date is given by the Diocese. Thank you for your cooperation.
